Lawyers do it in Latin!! Whoopeee!
Wonder whether the root word for Decadent is Decade. No connexion to your anniversaire but just to help you remember THAT decade of decadence--the 80s.
Here's looking at you kid- decade by decade!

Thanks, folks!
For those asking about the Latin- these words and phrases describe some of the genral principles used to interpret statutes...i won't go into details, but here are some basic translations:
"ejusdem generis": of the same kind
"noscitur a sociis": know from the association
"ut res magis valeat quam pereat": (where alternate constructions are possible, the court must give effect to that which will be responsible for the smooth working of the system for which the statute has been enacted rather than the one which would put hindrances in its way).
"expressio unius est exclusio alterius": express mention of one thing implies the exclusion of the other
"contemporanea expositio est fortissima in lege": contemporaneous exposition is the best and strongest in the law

Other than the actual Latin, i should point out that some of the topical undercurrents might make more sense to some people than to others!
